About the Opportunity

Our client, a Townsville based, Local Government organisation, now has an opportunity for an experienced Senior Financial Accountant to join their team on a full-time basis.

This is a critical position within the Finance Team, assisting in the provision of core accounting functions including but not limited to financial accounting and reporting; accounts payable and accounts receivable. This role also oversees the key area of payroll administration and has 4-5 direct reports.

Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:

  • Ensuring end of year financial reporting, including the preparation of annual financial statements/budgets are completed within agreed timeframes;
  • Developing and implementing controls to ensure compliance with accounting standards and principles, and relevant legislative requirements, regulations and policies;
  • Managing and preparing statutory and regulatory returns, e.g. Fringe benefits tax, grants, rebates;
  • Preparing for and being involved in all internal/external audit requirements; and
  • Consolidating financial data for reporting to Executive Management and other Government Departments in accordance with legislative requirements.

Please note: A current 'C' class Driver's License is a requirement of this position. 

About You

To be considered for this position you will hold CA or CPA qualifications with demonstrated experience in senior accounting position, ensuring you are able to hit the ground running. Local Government experience will be viewed favourably but is not mandatory. 

Whilst you won't be physically handing the payroll function, you will be overseeing payroll delivery so you will need to have experience in this area. You will have excellent analytical and problem-solving skills and a strong commercial acumen, which you will use to assist in strategic forward planning processes for the organisation. 

Critical to your success in this role will be your ability to provide clear focus, guidance and leadership to the finance team, working collaboratively to foster a consultative approach to service delivery that is of high-quality and professionalism at all times.
